Veryan pull out team

From the Falmouth Packet, first published Wednesday 12th Jul 2006.

Veryan Cricket Club have been forced to withdraw their second XI from Division Seven West of the Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League.

A club statement said: "Over the last three months we have lost eight members of the 1st XI: Wheildon (A), to New Zealand, Newland to St Stephen, Youle to Wales, Raven to St Austell; Tregunna, Smith and Howard to serious injuries in the process of healing slowly; and R Johns unavailable for all but one game due to work.

"We have also lost in the same period several members of the 2nd XI to gig rowing, a motor bike crash, hotel and pub work on Saturdays. The upshot is that Veryan 2nd XI, having won six of eight games played, has a handful of players available for July and August when the Cornish football season will kick in again, further depleting our resources.

"Our priority has to be to keep the 1st XI going, with the aid of at least five of the 2nd XI.

"We apologise to all the other clubs in Division Seven West for not being able to fulfil our fixtures but hope they understand our predicament."
