From the Burnham & Highbridge Weekly News, first published Wednesday 12th Jul 2006.
MORE nuclear power stations, MORE wind farms, and MORE renewable energy sources - this is the message from the Government to people of Burnham, Highbridge and beyond.
Long-awaited details of Britain's energy review were finally published yesterday (Tuesday)- and it was mixed news for Somerset, with the prospect of a Hinkley Point C, wind farms AND a Severn Barrage now looming large.
In announcing the decision, Tony Blair's Labour stressed that "wishful thinking will not keep the lights on" when many of Britain's nuclear plants are closed down in coming years.
That will leave a significant energy shortfall, which will have to be met somehow.
That means new power stations are very much back on the agenda, with sites already home to stations among the favourites for more.
Hinkley C - a fear long rallied against by campaigners here in Somerset - now looks inevitable.
