MP attacks cuts in art funding as "unnecessary"

BRIDGWATER MP Ian Liddell-Grainger this week reacted with dismay to the news that arts funding in Somerset is under serious threat - branding the proposed cutbacks "unnecessary" and "not on".

Bridgwater media centre the Engine Room and Somerset Film are just two of the ten arts services set to be hit by cuts to their county council funding which may run into thousands of pounds.

Somerset's arts budget looks lightly to be subject to cutbacks of up to 23 per cent under the new budget outlines - leaving the Engine Room with a shortfall, which will be felt hardest by those who use its facilities.
