An 18-year-old who has worked with rescued animals at the Rainbow Animal Rescue Centre since May 2003 has been honoured for her efforts with a national award of excellence.

Millennium volunteer Jenni Thornton, from Camborne, received her 200-hour Award of Excellence at the centre, at Kieve Mill Farm Workshops, Cuttings Hill, Camborne.

MV is a national scheme and recognises the commitment, enthusiasm and hard work young people.

MV area co-ordinator Mary Gosling said: "It is fantastic to see young people like Jenni helping in the community. She has gained valuable skills through her volunteering whilst making an important contribution to The Rainbow Animal Rescue Centre."

Austyn Osbourne, the centre's manager said the centre would be difficult to run without volunteers: "Jenni's help is much needed and we are pleased she has been able to help us two days a week over the last year," he said.
