Support group for bone cancer

From the archive, first published Tuesday 30th Sep 2003.

I READ with great interest an article in a Sunday newspaper regarding cases of osteosarcoma in your area. I then searched for your own website and read your article.

My son died from this cancer last October and, at his request, we have set up a charity to raise money to put into research specifically for this type of cancer. Apart from raising money we want to raise awareness of osteosarcoma as many people do not know of its existence until they are personally affected by it. We also would like to be able to contact and emotionally support patients and families that are going through or have been through this dreadful ordeal.

No-one understands what it is like better than someone that has been there themselves. We have a website for further information, which is www.apbonecancertrust.org, and we would love to hear from any of the families that have suffered from Osteosarcoma.

Our telephone number, address and e-mail details can all be found on the website.

I do hope that some of you will find the strength to contact us. If we can prevent just one child from going through what our children have been through, it will all have been worthwhile.

Gill Pilcher, Headland Close, Peacehaven, East Sussex.
