Princess Royal to attend show

The Princess Royal is to attend the opening day of the 2003 Royal Cornwall Show on Thursday, June 5.

Organisers welcomed the news this week and said it would be "a tremendous boost for the show."

Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association secretary, Christopher Riddle, expects the Princess Royal's visit to be a popular one. Her first visit to the show at Wadebridge was in 1993 when she was president of the RCAA.

"It was a two-day visit and she completed a very full itinerary each day. Her interest and commitment was very obvious to us all," said Mr Riddle. The year was one to remember in more way than one. The final day had to be abandoned because of high winds and heavy rain.

An itinerary for this year's royal visit will now be put together and there is likely to be an equine element.

"We can't be sure what else will be on her schedule but I think we can say for certain it will be a busy one. The Princess Royal is pretty knowledgeable about farming and the countryside so there will be a lot to choose from. And as a keen sailor, there is a lot Cornwall and the Royal Cornwall Show will have to interest the Princess Royal," said Mr Riddle.
